THOMASVILLE - A former middle school teacher has been sentenced to a year in prison, ten years probation and a $2,500 fine after she pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and molestation of a student.
30-year-old Amy E. Drew also was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and to receive mental counseling as part of the sentence.
Drew was arrested in June after being accused of the incident with a 13-year-old student in a closet of her classroom at Central Middle School. She had been free on $15,000 bail.
Altman also ordered Drew to surrender her teaching license and to stay away from people younger than 18.
If Drew completes her sentences successfully, her conviction can be voided under the state's first offender law.
