GAINESVILLE - Hall County authorities said Thursday afternoon that a structure fire turned up the second methamphetamine lab at the same place in a year's time.
The cinder-block storage building at 6093 Hubert Stephens Road burned at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and revealed another meth lab.
Hall County Sheriff's Captain Ed Barfield said firefighters and sheriff's deputies suspected it was a lab. Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad agents confirmed their suspicions.
As with any meth lab, Barfield said it involves carefull cleanup because of dangerous chemicals.
"Agents and fire department officials spent the remainder of the night and early in the morning investigating the lab and ensuring that all dangerous chemicals and equipment were removed," Barfield said.
"Hepaco, a hazardous chemical disposal company responded and took control of the hazardous material," Barfield added.
He said there have been no arrests with the latest lab. In October of 2001, authorities made one arrest and discovered a lab in the safe building.
