The governor declared three counties disaster areas.

Hanna hit Donalsonville before dawn Sunday but most of the water was gone by Monday afternoon.

A large section of the downtown and several low-lying neighborhoods were flooded.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency spokesman Buzz Weiss says 143 of the town's three thousand residents registered to stay at an emergency shelter Sunday evening but only eleven spent the night.

Relief organizations were setting up a disaster assistance center where residents could apply for state aid.

Weiss says officials were still assessing the damage in Seminole, Miller and Decatur counties in extreme southwestern Georgia.

Thirty-four homes, three business and two churches were flooded in Miller County.

Decatur County sustained little property damage but was included in the disaster declaration because officials were concerned that rain-swollen streams might cause more flooding.
