Residents mop up after Hanna's deluge

DONALSVILLE - Residents in southwest Georgia continued mopping up Monday after Tropical Storm Hanna dumped up to 16 inches of rain in the area. <br> <br> The storm flooded 250 homes and 75 businesses. The governor declared three counties disaster areas. <br> <br> Hanna hit Donalsonville before dawn Sunday but most of the water was gone by Monday afternoon. <br> <br> A large section of the downtown and several low-lying neighborhoods were flooded. <br> <br> Georgia Emergency Management Agency spokesman Buzz Weiss says 143 of the town&#39;s three thousand residents registered to stay at an emergency shelter Sunday evening but only eleven spent the night. <br> <br> Relief organizations were setting up a disaster assistance center where residents could apply for state aid. <br> <br> Weiss says officials were still assessing the damage in Seminole, Miller and Decatur counties in extreme southwestern Georgia. <br> <br> Thirty-four homes, three business and two churches were flooded in Miller County. <br> <br> Decatur County sustained little property damage but was included in the disaster declaration because officials were concerned that rain-swollen streams might cause more flooding.
