Campaign workers sue Pitts for payment

By
ATLANTA - Four people who worked on Robb Pitts' mayoral campaign filed a lawsuit Wednesday, saying the ex-Atlanta City Council President owes them $137,000 for their work.

Melvin Collins, who headed the get-out-the-vote drive, Mitzi Bickers, Joe Amos and Kimberly Daniels are also asking for $1 million in punitive damages against Pitts, who is now a candidate for Fulton County Commission.

The Superior Court suit says that while the campaign accounting records show more than $170,000 of get-out-the-vote spending, the campaign disclosure reports showed only about $95,000 spent on that effort.

Pitts could not be reached for comment but his lawyer, Mark Trigg, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he doesn't owe the four anything. Trigg said the plaintiffs would have to get their money from the Robb Pitts '01 campaign, which he says doesn't have the money.
