ATLANTA - A newborn baby found abandoned in downtown Atlanta may go home Monday with a family who may one day adopt her.
The girl - named Selena Rena Bell by her child welfare caseworker - was found Monday wrapped in towels in a parking lot behind a printing shop across from Centennial Olympic Park. Her umbilical cord was still attached.
The baby is remaining at Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital longer than usual because child welfare workers want to see if there are potential health problems since there's no family history on her.
The Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services is talking to a couple of foster families on a waiting list about taking the baby.
Meanwhile, police continue to look for the child's mother.
A deliveryman at Franklin's Printing found the baby. The company's manager - John Thomas - says he had talked to police about a young woman who came to the shop Wednesday asking about the baby.
Police spokesman Sergeant John Quigley says the hospital has gotten calls from a woman asking about the baby.
