STATESBORO - Georgia Southern coach Mike Sewak knows why his team got stuck in a rut in Saturday's 14-7 loss to Wofford.
``They forced us to use up our blockers so we didn't have anyone to block their free safety,'' Sewak said. ``It seemed like they made all the tackles and all the plays on the perimeter.''
The Eagles trailed Wofford 6-0 for three quarters before they finally went ahead 7-6 with 14:20 left in the final period on a 2-yard run by Zzream Walden.
But Wofford's Jesse McCoy, who scored on a 30-yard run in the first quarter, ran in the winning touchdown with 3:55 left after a 10-play, 81-yard drive.
``We really had our backs against the wall at the end of the game,'' Wofford coach Mike Ayers said.
The Terriers followed up with a 2-point conversion on a run by Jeff Zolman.
Wofford (3-0) handed Southern (1-2) its 13th home field loss against 119 victories in the Southern Conference opener for both teams.
McCoy finished with 113 yards on nine carries. Zolman ran for 74 yards and completed 6 of 8 passes for another 40.
