DECATUR - A driver killed after his car collided with a DeKalb County ambulance has been identified as Ju Hyun Yoo, 21, of La Crescenta, Calif.
The wreck happened early Sunday when Yoo, driving a Mercedes-Benz, struck an ambulance that was on its way to an accident, officials said. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The paramedics stopped at the intersection and were proceeding through after making sure ``to the best of their ability that it was clear. That's when they were hit,'' DeKalb fire Lt. Eric Jackson said.
The sirens and emergency lights also were in use, he said.
Two passengers in the car were also taken to Grady. A 21-year-old female passenger was in satisfactory condition Monday, and a second male passenger was in stable condition, hospital officials said.
The ambulance driver was treated and released. Another paramedic remained in stable condition.
Police said no one in the car was wearing a seat belt.
