NASCAR modifies Pontiac, Chevy air dams

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA - NASCAR said Thursday that the front air dams on Pontiac and Chevrolet Winston Cup cars will be increased for the Aug. 18 race at Michigan International Speedway. <br> <br> The Pontiacs will be allowed to extend the front of the cars by a half-inch, and the Chevys will get an additional inch. <br> <br> The leading edge for the Pontiacs will not be allowed to extend more than 1 1/2 inches forward of the bumper. The leading edge for the Chevrolets cannot extend more than 3 1/2 inches forward of the bumper. <br> <br> NASCAR said the modifications would be in place only for the Pepsi 400, pending further assessment. <br> <br> ``I&#39;m glad for Pontiac getting a little more on the nose,&#39;&#39; said Johnny Benson, who drives the No. 10 Pontiac. ``We have found you can get through qualifying OK, but the Pontiacs have trouble racing compared to the other makes.&#39;&#39;
