Pardons board denies clemency for convicted killer Wallace Fugate

By
ATLANTA - Wallace Fugate, sentenced to death for killing his wife eleven years ago, was denied clemency by a state pardons board Monday.

It was the second time the state Pardons and Paroles board denied clemency for the 52-year-old Fugate. The first denial was overturned in June, just hours before Fugate was to be put to death by injection.

The board was short one member, and a Fulton County judge gave fugate a stay of execution until the all five members of the pardons board could rule.

Since then, Governor Barnes appointed Michael Light as the board's fifth member. All five voted in Monday's ruling.

Fugate is to be killed Wednesday evening unless a judge orders a delay.
