DORAVILLE, Ga. - A teenager lost control of his car, ran into a tree and died early Sunday morning - the second teen traffic fatality this weekend.
The teen, who was not identified, and his friend were speeding on Tilly Mill Road about 2 a.m. when they got in the single-car crash, said DeKalb fire Lt. Eric Jackson. The passenger was injured and treated.
"We do know this car was traveling at a presumably high rate of speed, passing a police officer and later slowing down and crashing into a tree," Jackson told WSB-TV.
Both were students and football players at Dunwoody High School, he said.
"I don't know. It's horrible. I don't know what to feel," said John Price, a friend of the two.
Police said they were investigating whether alcohol was involved in the accident.
Late Friday night, a 16-year-old died when he skidded off the road, through several trees and into an iron fence, police said. Four other teenagers, ages 14 to 17, were injured.
The wreck occurred shortly before midnight on Flakes Mill Road near Henry County.
