ATHENS - Two weeks before the University of Georgia football season kicks off, construction crews are working around the clock to make the eastern end of Sanford Stadium ``fully operational'' for football fans.
Charles Whittemore, UGA assistant athletic director, says everything the fans need will be ready and working by the first game.
But that does not mean everything will be finished or perfect by then.
``This is still a construction site, so we are going to get a temporary occupancy permit,'' Whittemore said.
Georgia opens its football season against Clemson on August 31st, and officials expect to fill the 86,520-seat stadium.
The $16 million construction project, called the Gate 6 project, is designed to make the eastern end of the stadium more comfortable for fans.
It includes much wider entry and exit points at newly constructed Gates 6 and 7.
