ACWORTH - Water levels at Lake Allatoona are more than five and a half feet below its summer pool due to drought through out the lake's 1,000 square foot watershed.
``It has been extremely dry this summer and it took a turn for the worst in August,'' said Memphis Vaughan, acting chief water manager for the Mobile District of the Corps of Engineers, which manages Lake Allatoona.
The Corps, however, is releasing water from the lake for about three hours each day to maintain downstream flows for Rome's water system, water withdrawals from Georgia Power's Plant Bowen and Plant Hammond and other industrial uses further downstream.
