AUGUSTA - A Richmond County Sheriff's Deputy has been reprimanded for pushing a 13-year-old burglary suspect while he was being booked into jail last month.
Sheriff Ronnie Strength said Tuesday that deputy Anna Ligon should have asked for help with handling the teen.
``The juvenile was uncooperative and was swinging his hands, and the female jailer was not sure what his intentions were,'' Strength said. ``At one point, she pushed him against the wall. She could have asked for assistance. But at the time, she thought that was the best way to handle it.''
The teen had consumed two bottles of wine shortly before his arrest July 24, police said. Deputy Ligon was trying to fingerprint and photograph the boy when the handcuffed youth balled his fist and swung his head around, Strength said.
The teen was charged with stealing cigarettes and wine from a store in Hephzibah.
