AUGUSTA - A Superior Court jury acquitted an Augusta man of voluntary manslaughter Wednesday, saying the death of another man he claimed had threatened himself and his child was justifiable homicide.
Cedric Jackson, 26, died May 8, 2001, after being shot in the chest and back at the apartment he shared with Tamika Morgan, who was seven months pregnant with Jackson's child.
Morgan is also the mother of defendant Claude Wiggleton's son, who was then 18 months old. Witnesses testified that she called Wiggleton to come get their son out of the apartment so he would not see and hear her and Jackson fighting.
Wiggleton testified that Jackson was enraged and pushed or hit him as he was holding his son, caused the child's head to hit the wall. He said he pulled a borrowed .25-caliber handgun from his pocket and fired.
