VALDOSTA - Parents in south Georgia are complaining to transportation officials about students having to stand in the aisle as they ride overcrowded school buses.
Cheryl Peterson said her daughter told her students riding the bus to Lowndes County schools have to stand in the aisles because there's nowhere to sit.
She told an Albany television station that a five-year-old child was standing in the aisle when a bus came to a sudden stop. She said someone grabbed the boy to keep him from falling.
School transportation director Billy Mortonson said the problem is that some students are not riding the bus they're supposed to. He says they're probably riding with friends.
School officials have added another school bus and also are monitoring the number of students riding each bus.
