Man sentenced to death for killing couple with ax

JONESBORO - A man convicted of killing an elderly couple with an ax during a robbery at their Ellenwood home was sentenced to death on Tuesday. <br> <br> Richard Lester Sealey, 38, was found guilty Friday in the Jan. 23, 2000, slayings of John and Fannie Mae Tubner. <br> <br> During the trial, Gregory Fahie and Wajaka Battiste testified that they gave Sealey and John Tubner&#39;s granddaughter Deandrea Carter, then 15, a ride to the Tubners&#39; home. <br> <br> Battiste stayed outside while Fahie, Carter and Sealey went inside. Fahie testified that he came out of the bathroom to find that Sealey had knocked John Tubner unconscious and that he threatened Fahie with a gun, telling him the couple had ``a million dollars&#39;&#39; in the house. <br> <br> Sealey killed the couple with an ax that Carter brought to him after they failed to find the money, Fahie testified. <br> <br> Carter could go to trial in October, prosecutor Todd Naugle said. Fahie and Battiste each made deals in exchange for their testimony. Naugle said their sentences of 10 years and five years respectively would begin after they testify in Carter&#39;s trial.
