LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles airport spokesman said an engine failed on a Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 shortly after takeoff from Orange County, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing Tuesday at Los Angeles International Airport.
Flight 1938 to Atlanta, carrying 167 passengers, landed safely about 9:03 a.m. No one was hurt.
The flight's scheduled departure time from John Wayne International Airport was 8:45 a.m.
L.A. airport spokesman Tom Winfrey said the twin-engine Boeing 757 had just taken off when the pilot reported an engine had failed.
Winfrey said the plane was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport, 35 miles northwest of John Wayne, and emergency equipment was stationed as a precaution. The jetliner landed without incident and passengers left the plane at a gate.
A message left for Delta Air Lines spokesman Anthony Black wasn't immediately returned.
