WATKINSVILLE - A mother and her two children were killed and another man was clinging to life after a head-on collision in Oconee County Tuesday, the State Patrol said.
Jessica Hanna, 34, of Watkinsville, her daughter, Heather, 3, and son, Benjamin, 2, died at the scene when her car collided with a pickup truck, trooper Scott Smith said.
The driver of the truck, 49-year-old Gary Dudley of Watkinsville, was critically injured and underwent surgery Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital.
The wreck about 10:30 a.m. was apparently the result of one of the vehicles crossing the center line, Smith said.
``That's what it's going to be, but we've got to figure out who and what,'' he said.
Smith said the children were properly restrained in car seats in the back seat, and speed or mechanical failure likely were not factors in the wreck. There were no signs of drugs or alcohol in either car, Smith said.
Jessica Hanna was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, Deputy Coroner Ed Carson said. Left widowed and without his young children is Jonathan Hanna of Watkinsville.
Dudley is a researcher at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
