Policeman shoots suspected prostitute after being stabbed

ATLANTA - A police officer is recovering Thursday morning after being stabbed the day before during an arrest attempt. <br>

Atlanta authorities said yesterday the officer - a 21-year veteran who was conducting a sting operation in an unmarked vehicle - shot a suspected prostitute after she stabbed him in the arm as he tried to arrest her in a park. <br>
<br>
Police Chief Richard Pennington said when the officer revealed that he was a policeman, the woman pulled out a knife and attacked him. <br>
<br>
The officer remains hospitalized at Grady Memorial Hospital. The 18-year-old woman - whose name has not been released - was shot in the torso. <br>
<br>
The woman has been charged with aggravated assault and solicitation of sex.
