ATLANTA - Two men charged with prostituting children were sentenced in federal court Friday. One received 30 years in prison, the other got 40.
Fifty-seven-year-old Charles Floyd Pipkins, also known as ``Sir Charles,'' stood with his hands clasped behind his back and stared straight ahead as U.S. District Judge J. Owen Forrester sentenced him to 30 years.
Thirty-eight-year-old Andrew ``Batman'' Moore Junior was sentenced to 40 years.
Each had previously been offered ten-year sentences in exchange for a guilty plea, but they refused.
Pipkins and Moore were among 15 people to be prosecuted under the federal Racketeering and Corrupt Organizations act, the first time the law has been used in a child prostitution case.
Prosecutors said the two were leaders of a violent prostitution ring, involving children as young as ten, that had operated in Atlanta for several years.
The other 13 defendants pleaded guilty. Twelve received sentenced ranging from three years to six and one-half years. One man was still to be sentenced.
