VILLANOW - Two brothers who were clearing brush at the Mountain Top Boys Home were fatally shot Monday in what authorities said may have been a robbery.
Larry and Arvin Phelps of Dalton, described by authorities as in their 60s, were found dead about 1:45 p.m. in woods about half a mile from the boys home by an adult leader and a resident of the home.
Walker County Coroner Dwayne Wilson said the cause of death seems clear. ``It appeared to be a high-powered weapon at close range,'' Walker County Coroner Dwayne Wilson said.
Sheriff Steve Wilson said a red pickup truck used by the victims was seen leaving the campus driven by a white male. It had a load of wood in the bed for a construction project at the boys home and was heading northwest toward LaFayette, 18 miles away.
A white, 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier with Bartow County tags was found on the roadside near the scene. Female belongings were in the car.

``It appears the Cavalier broke down on the side of the road, and the suspect or suspects went into the woods,'' the sheriff said. ``That's where the confrontation took place.''
Boys home vice president Burt Bridges said the brothers were regular volunteers at the home, which houses 12 boys aged 12 to 17 who have been in trouble with the law.
``This is a bad situation with some bad people involved taking advantage of good people,'' he said. ``They were very good people who have been at the home before.''
