Chicken processing plant evacuated in Cherokee County

CANTON - A Cherokee County chicken processing plant had to evacuate workers after a pressure valve released ammonia in the area Thursday night. <br> <br> ConAgra spokesman Bob McKeon said about 250 workers were evacuated from the ConAgra plant around 11:10 p.m. Officials said a pressure release valve that runs along the roof of the building had opened. It was unclear how it happened, though. <br> <br> A safety team and rescue crews treated most of the workers at the scene. <br> <br> Two people, including a pregnant woman, were taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital, treated for minor injuries and later released.
