CANTON - A Cherokee County chicken processing plant had to evacuate workers after a pressure valve released ammonia in the area Thursday night.

ConAgra spokesman Bob McKeon said about 250 workers were evacuated from the ConAgra plant around 11:10 p.m. Officials said a pressure release valve that runs along the roof of the building had opened.
