In making the announcement Wednesday, the university said the gift will create a Carl Sanders professorship in political leadership. Also, the main reading room in the law school library will be named for Sanders, who graduated from there in 1948.
UGA President Michael Adams called Sanders ``one of the all-time great champions of education in Georgia.''
Sanders was governor from 1963 to 1967, when the law school library opened. Sanders has donated to the law school for years, creating a library fund in 1987 and giving $125,000 on his 70th birthday in 1995. The Democrat also has donated his gubernatorial papers and photographs to the library.
