ATLANTA - The Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta has wrapped up arguments in the case of an Alabama student who refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance.
The high school boy received corporal punishment two years ago when he refused to say the pledge. His lawyers argued Michael Holloman wasn't interrupting classes when he refused to salute the flag and that it's his right not to pledge.
The school attorneys arugued that Holloman caused a disturbance and deserved the coporal punishment.
The suit was filed two years ago in federal court.
There is no word on when the three-member panel will return its ruling. Depending on the outcome, the case could either go to the Supreme Court or back to the district court in Alabama for trial.
Holloman was not in court Friday and has since graduated from the Walker County school.
