Albany State assistant professor indicted for sexual battery

ALBANY - A veteran teacher at Albany State University has been indicted on two counts of sexual battery. <br> <br> Melvin Shelton, 55, was charged last week with fondling an unidentified female student on Apr. 16 on the campus. He was arrested by campus police. <br> <br> Shelton, a mathematics teacher at the school for more than 16 years, has been suspended without pay by Albany State. <br> <br> His attorney, Howard Stiller, said Shelton ``vehemently denies the charges.&#39;&#39; No trial date has been set, but Stiller said he did not expect to go to court before November.
