ATLANTA - Lawyers began jury selection Monday morning for the murder trial of former DeKalb County Sheriff Sidney Dorsey.
Dorsey is accused of orchestrating the assassination of his successor - sheriff-elect Derwin Brown.
The first group of 24 jurors listened to DeKalb Superior Court Judge Cynthia J. Becker read the lengthy indictment. The jurors will then complete a written questionnaire before attorneys have a chance to interview them individually.
Dorsey is charged with 16 counts accusing him of racketeering and ordering the murder of Brown - who was gunned down in his driveway December 15, 2000 - three days before he was to take office.
A group of 400 prospective jurors has been summoned to hear the trial, which Becker moved to Albany because of heavy pretrial publicity in the Atlanta area.

Jury selection is expected to take about a week. The trial could last five to six weeks.
Dorsey has denied any involvement in Brown's murder.
