BRUNSWICK - Ice cream trucks in Brunswick can now play "Turkey in the Straw" and sell Popsicles, snow cones and ice cream sandwiches only when the sun shines.
The Brunswick City Commission, after hearing complaints about the loud music the trucks use to draw attention, passed a law yesterday that allows the trucks to operate only from 10 a.m. to sunset.
In addition to the noise problems, city officials said they were concerned that children could be lured into the streets at night by the irresistible siren-song of the ice cream truck.
Ice cream truck owners Tammie Aldaba and Joanne D'Agastino said they were content that they will be allowed to continue playing the music that draws customers.
One of D'Agastino's drivers was ticketed two weeks ago for playing the music too loud, driving with a suspended license and having no proof of insurance. She faces up to 12-hundred dollars in fines.
Brunswick Mayor Brad Brown had wanted the ice cream truck music stopped altogether because of a city ban on using amplified sound to solicit business door-to-door.
