APPLING - Home run king Hank Aaron plans to open a Jaguar and Land Rover auto dealership in Columbia County.
The county commission was scheduled to meet Thursday to take up Aaron's rezoning request, submitted by local developer Bobby Meybohm, of a 14.69-acre parcel of land.
Aaron told The Augusta Chronicle, ``We want to build a beautiful facility there. It's beautiful there. We're hoping that everything will be approved, and we can go on about our business.''
Planners have some concern about the development's effect on an adjacent retirement community.
Aaron added, ``They can rest assured ... we will do anything possible to make this as easy as we possibly can. That's their home, and if I thought I was coming in and interrupting their lifestyle I wouldn't do it.''
Aaron owns several businesses in the Atlanta area, including a BMW dealership, and several Church's and Popeye's chicken restaurants. He also plans to open a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop.
Aaron, a senior vice president and assistant to the president of the Atlanta Braves, hit 755 home runs during his major league career.
