Last month, authorities recovered 275 pounds of stolen explosives in a wooded area on the grounds of Fort Benning.
Almost 150 sticks of ammonium nitrate, stored in five 55-pound boxes and used to clear rock during road construction, had been missing from Robinson Paving Company in nearby Columbus. The explosives were discovered missing in May, but Columbus police Major Ricky Boren said the theft could have happened as early as mid-March.
Ammonium nitrate is the explosive used to bomb the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995. Boren said the company used it to blast rock for road construction.
