Otten steps down as West Georgia coach; Ledford named interim coach

CARROLLTON - Saying his heart no longer is in coaching, Gary Otten announced his resignation today as the head football coach at West Georgia College. <br>

Otten said, ``This was not a spur of the moment decision. My priorities have changed. I have different goals, and my heart is no longer in the coaching profession.'' <br>
<br>
Mike Ledford, the Braves' offensive coordinator, was named interim head coach. Athletic director Ed Murphy said a search for Otten's replacement will begin immediately. <br>
<br>
Otten steps down after 13 years in the West Georgia program, having served as offensive line coach and offensive coordinator before becoming the head coach in January 2001. <br>
<br>
The Braves have won at least eight games in each of the last seven seasons, including shares of three Gulf South Conference championships and four trips to the NCAA Division Two playoffs. <br>
<br>
Otten did not say what he intended to do, other than return to him hometown, Huntsville, Ala.
