Police officer, suspect wounded in motel shooting

NORCROSS - A Norcross police officer shot over the weekend will stay in an induced coma while doctors monitor his injuries. <br> <br> Thirty-two-year-old Mark Clarence Gibbs, a corporal with the Norcross Police Department, remains in critical but stable condition at Gwinnett Medical Center. <br> <br> He was shot last night after responding to a report of threats at the Villager Lodge motel in suburban Atlanta. <br> <br> Motel employee Charles Ramsey said the alleged gunman, identified as Marty Logan, had been fired from his position as assistant manager before the shooting. <br> <br> According to police, he began firing on Gibbs and another officer. The other officer returned fire, hitting Logan in the chest and head. Logan is in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center. <br> <br> A witness told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Logan put his hands in the air and tried to surrender before he was shot. The man also said Gibbs fired his gun first. <br> <br> Gwinnett County police spokesman Ray Dunlap said Gibbs&#39; weapon never left the holster. Investigators say they have talked to the witness, whose information differs from four other people who saw the incident.
