ALBANY - Michael Jerrod Williams arrived in the world 17 days early -- when his mother went into labor at Wal-Mart.
Nineteen-year-old Shenna Williams started having labor pains about 3 a.m. Saturday. Her mother, Katherine Williams, thought they had plenty of time to stop at the store for a disposable camera to document the birth.
Shenna Williams stayed by the front doors of the store with her cousin while her mother went to get a camera off the shelves. That's when Katherine Williams heard someone scream and realized it was her daughter.
She helped deliver her grandson on a bench. Michael was born about 6:15 a.m. and was greeted by about a dozen Wal-Mart shoppers, employees and the flashing lights of several disposable cameras.
Later, store employees stopped by the hospital to visit the baby and brought gifts provided by Wal-Mart. The mother was so grateful that she asked the store's night manager, Adrian Wright, to be Michael's godfather.
