Two women charged in deputy shooting, search expand for third suspect

HEFLIN, ALABAMA - Two Georgia women are charged with attempted murder in last weekend&#39;s shooting of a Cleburne County, Alabama sheriff&#39;s deputy. The search for a third suspect -- 47-year-old Billy Joe Howard -- has shifted to Rome, Georgia. <br> <br> Cleburne County Sheriff Darrell Durham said 18-year-old Brandi Elliot and 30-year-old Jotty Brown, both of Tallapoosa, Georgia are being held in the Etowah County Jail. <br> <br> Investigators said deputy Gary Howell was shot in the face and ribs during a traffic stop last Friday near the intersections of U.S. 78 and Cleburne County Road 65. Howell is listed in serious condition at UAB Hospital. <br> <br> Authorities believe Elliot and Brown were passengers in Howard&#39;s pickup truck at the time of the shooting. <br> <br> Authorities also say Howard will be charged with attempted murder. <br> <br> The search involving dozens of law officers was concentrated in Georgia after authorities traced a call from Howard&#39;s cell phone to the area.
