Investigators said deputy Gary Howell was shot in the face and ribs during a traffic stop last Friday near the intersections of U.S. 78 and Cleburne County Road 65. Howell is listed in serious condition at UAB Hospital.
Authorities believe Elliot and Brown were passengers in Howard's pickup truck at the time of the shooting.
Authorities also say Howard will be charged with attempted murder.
The search involving dozens of law officers was concentrated in Georgia after authorities traced a call from Howard's cell phone to the area.
