CAPITOL HILL - The first congressional subpoena going to the Bush White House concerns the Enron collapse.

The vote in the Senate Governmental Affairs was strictly along party lines, after nearly two hours of political wrangling.

Chairman Joseph Lieberman says the action comes after two months of stalling from the White House.

He insists the committee is making reasonable requests for legitimate information about staff contacts with Enron officials. But the Connecticut Democrat claims the administration response has been completely inadequate.

The ranking Republican on the committee calls the subpoena effort premature. Senator Fred Thompson says the White House is cooperating and is gathering documents.
Thompson calls this a Democratic effort to have a ``look-see'' inside the White House to find some wrong-doing.
