ATLANTA - Services are planned in Atlanta Thursday as part of the National Day of Prayer.
Organizers say Americans will be thinking of victims of the September eleventh terrorist attacks when they gather for services.
President George Washington issued a proclamation in 1795 setting aside a day of public thanksgiving.
In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and in 1988 designated the day as the first Thursday in May.
Prayer services will be held at noon on the Washington Street steps of the state Capitol and at 6 p.m. in CNN Center in downtown Atlanta.
