Husband charged with murder in wife's death

SWAINSBORO - Authorities in Swainsboro have charged the husband of an East Georgia College professor with murder in her death. <br> <br> Authorities arrested 48-year-old Walter Mason early today in the death of his wife, Emily Pestana-Mason. He is being held without bond in Emanuel County. <br> <br> The woman&#39;s body was found Monday night in the couple&#39;s home. An autopsy showed she had been stabbed in the throat. <br> <br> Mason first told authorities he had found his wife dead when he returned from a trip to the store with their two daughters - ages two and four. <br> <br> Her funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Swainsboro. <br> <br> Pestana-Mason was an English professor at the two-year college in Swainsboro, about 150 miles southeast of Atlanta. She specialized in creative writing and 20th Century American and British Literature. <br> <br> Her husband is a physical education professor at the same school. <br> <br> The couple&#39;s children are staying with relatives. <br> <br> (WXRS, Jeff Wiggins and WJBF-TV, Dana McIntyre)
