AUGUSTA - An Augusta woman whose makeshift methamphetamine labs caused fires at local hotels was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison.
Kelly E. Barton, 24, of Grovetown pleaded guilty in February in federal court to attempt to manufacture methamphetamine.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Dudley H. Bowen Jr. said he was giving her a break on the sentence because she had provided information to narcotic agents last summer and fall while working with drug dealers at the same time. She could have been sentenced to six years in prison.
Barton was indicted after setting fire to two hotel rooms where she tried her hand at manufacturing methamphetamine. She will have to pay nearly $40,000 in restitution.
