Two-engine jet crashes near Perry

PERRY - The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to review the site of a small plane crash Monday. <br> <br> The pilot of the two-engine jet died yesterday when the plane crashed in a wooded area. He had more than 4,000 hours of flight time. <br> <br> Officials say 32-year-old Randy Allen Smith was killed on impact. He was the only one aboard. <br> <br> Houston County sheriff&#39;s Sergeant Tony Brown said the plane crashed around 4:30 p.m. - shortly after takeoff from Perry-Houston County Airport. Witnesses said the plane sounded as if it had engine problems just before impact. <br> <br> The plane&#39;s fuselage was broken in two and sat amid a cluster of broken trees. The plane did not appear to have caught fire. It crashed a few hundred feet from the backyard of a Valley Road residence. <br> <br> Smith&#39;s body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon, where an autopsy is expected to be performed.
