PERRY - The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to review the site of a small plane crash Monday.
The pilot of the two-engine jet died yesterday when the plane crashed in a wooded area. He had more than 4,000 hours of flight time.
Officials say 32-year-old Randy Allen Smith was killed on impact. He was the only one aboard.
Houston County sheriff's Sergeant Tony Brown said the plane crashed around 4:30 p.m. - shortly after takeoff from Perry-Houston County Airport. Witnesses said the plane sounded as if it had engine problems just before impact.
The plane's fuselage was broken in two and sat amid a cluster of broken trees. The plane did not appear to have caught fire. It crashed a few hundred feet from the backyard of a Valley Road residence.
Smith's body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon, where an autopsy is expected to be performed.
