LAWRENCEVILLE - A grand jury has indicted a former Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy in an alleged charity scam involving September 11th.
Investigators say 34-year-old Robert Addison was in uniform when he and another deputy collected two-thousand dollars in cash donations in a bucket at busy intersections in Buford and Lawrenceville.
The indictment released yesterday says nearly 600 dollars of the money never made it to the families of New York police officers who died in the terrorist attack.
His attorney - Brian Steel - says his client is innocent.
Addison worked for the sheriff's department for three years and guarded inmates. Sheriff's spokeswoman Stacey Kelley says he was fired December eighth after investigations into the cash collections.
