CARROLLTON - Authorities in Carrollton are looking for a thief who has stolen about $230,000 in jewelry and cigarettes from nine Kmart stores in north Georgia in the past month.
Police Chief Michael Mansour said the man robbed a Carrollton store May 1, taking about $25,000 in diamond rings and other jewelry.
A surveillance video showed the man crawling behind the jewelry counter three times in a 23-minute period before taking a whole tray of jewelry at the store about 30 miles west of Atlanta.
Authorities believe the same man is responsible for thefts at eight other Kmart stores, including ones in Douglasville, Cumming and Athens.
``We've confirmed he definitely did the Athens one and the Cumming one because we've got videotapes from them and it's definitely the same guy,'' Mansour said. ``He's been very successful, so far.''
