CARNESVILLE - A murder charge has been dropped against a northeast Georgia woman who was accused of causing her baby's death by taking drugs during pregnancy.
Shannon Moss of Canon gave birth three years ago to twins. One of them died shortly after delivery.

After learning that blood drawn from Moss tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamines, she was charged with murder. An autopsy found no trace of illegal drugs in the baby's body.
Franklin County District Attorney Bob Lavender said the murder case had other problems. One was an appellate court decision prohibiting the use of subpoenas to obtain medical records.

Lavender also said he may have had a difficult time proving the baby was born alive -- even though her death certificate said she lived five minutes.
Moss pleaded guilty to drug possession and was sentenced to five years' probation. The 23-year-old's lawyer -- F. Mayes Davison of Royston -- said she has been drug-free, obtained her GED and has a full-time job.
