Aauthorities said 54-year-old Ronald Edward Jenkins was flushed out of the bedroom of his Fulton County home by tear gas, then was shot to death by SWAT team officers after firing a shotgun at them.
The standoff began about 9 a.m. when Jenkins' mother called police because he threatened suicide. Officers entered the house and found him in a bedroom with a shotgun, which he began firing while officers were still in the house.
Police say Jenkins continued to fire randomly as police unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with him. Fearing he would hurt someone, the SWAT team went in with tear gas at about 1:20 p.m.
