Police shoot suspect in home invasion robbery

ATLANTA - A man who forced his way into an Atlanta home early Saturday morning was shot to death by DeKalb County police when he allegedly held a knife on the homeowner and tried to stab her. <br> <br> Police were not immediately able to identify the suspect, a man in his early 20s. Neighbors said he grabbed Patrick Kinchen as he arrived from work and forced his way into the house Patrick shared with his mother, Gladys Kinchen. <br> <br> ``We&#39;ve determined his motive was robbery,&#39;&#39; said police Lt. M.A. Williams. <br> <br> After being tied up and left in a bedroom with his mother, Patrick Kinchen managed to call police. When officers arrived and confronted him, the suspect held a knife on Gladys Kinchen and tried to stab her, police said. <br> <br> The officer who shot the suspect is on unpaid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. <br> <br> Saturday&#39;s shooting was the third fatal shooting by DeKalb police in a month and the second in metro Atlanta in two days.
