MABLETON - A woman who called police Saturday to report a man covered in blood helped them catch a robber instead.
The woman saw a man running toward a Waffle House in Cobb County with what appeared to be blood all over him. It turned out the red mess came from a dye pack bundled in the money he allegedly stole from a First Union bank that morning.
Police say Douglasville resident David George Wilson, 48, went into the Mableton bank and showed the teller a demand note. The packet of money also contained a dye pack banks use to mark stolen money.
Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce said the case wouldn't have been solved so quickly without the woman's help.
``She was a very astute female, and she helped us out a lot in this case,'' Pierce said.
As police neared the scene, Wilson drove off in a black Saturn. He led police onto Interstate 20, eventually wrecking near the Six Flags Parkway overpass.
Wilson is charged with bank robbery, assault on police officers and a variety of traffic offenses.
