Public hearings to be held on proposed tax hike

GAINESVILLE - Property owners in Gainesville can sound-off in public hearings June 4th and 11th on a proposed 26.7 percent increase in property taxes.

The council is being asked to consider raising the milage rate for the coming fiscal year by nearly one-half mill, which would amount to about $45 per year for the owner of a home assessed at $100,000.

The June 4th hearing will be at 9 a.m. The hearing on June 11th will be at 6 p.m.
