COLUMBUS - Authorities are trying to determine who stole 275 pounds of explosives from a road contractor.
The 16-inch sticks of ammonium nitrate, 2 inches in diameter, were in five 55-pound cardboard containers taken from a Robinson Paving Co. storage magazine between mid-March and Thursday, when the theft was discovered by company employees. A lock on the bunker was cut.
The explosives are used to clear rock during road construction.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms planned Wednesday to announce a $2,000 reward from information, Agent Brad Donnelly said.
``If someone just dabbled and was criminally tampering with the bunker not knowing what was in it, if we can get the materials recovered, it may be we could negotiate,'' Donnelly said Tuesday. ``Recovery is the most important thing.''
