COLUMBUS - Refueling a small plane after its 300-mile flight from Charlotte, N.C., Andy Jeffers thought he was hearing things when he detected a muffled cat's meow.
``I asked the pilot if he had a cat on board,'' Jeffers said. ``He looked at me strangely and said 'no.'''
Another meow convinced the line tech at CSG Aviation at Columbus Metropolitan Airport to look into the wheel well of the Cessna Bonanza. He found a kitten, which he estimated to be a few weeks old.
The pilot said he had no idea how the kitten got there. It appeared shaken but otherwise OK after Tuesday's journey.
CSG office employee Ashley Dennard quickly offered to adopt the solid gray feline. ``I'd give it the name 'Lucky,' but I already have a cat with that name,'' Dennard said.
She said that kitten climbed under the hood of her pick-up truck last winter to escape the cold. She spotted its tail just before starting up the engine.
